As you well know paper slows you down compared to EMR. I could go on and on but the main points as I see it are:

1. For most entry the J codes really speed things up as does the ability to pull the prior visits & alter them. By the time I'm ready to examine the patient I'm 95% done with the parts of the chart we've used.
2. The even bigger plus for me is the Assessment and Plan. If you look at some of my assessments (Bee Stings, Hives, Drug Allergies-like Sulfa Reactions)--the amount of info I can enter & send to a PCP with just a few keystrokes is just phenomenal. The Plan is printed & given to the patient & they love it. I still get daily comments on just how useful the detailed plans we provide are to the patients.
3. The last quick thought is the organization of the data. I can find all the orders, look at serial lab tests, etc with a keystroke instead of thumbing thru pages of material.

I'll never understand the resistance to the EMR but I recall some people never thought the automobile would be a lasting thing either.

I see 4 to 5 more full exams per day with Medformix^® XXV. Paper is much slower.

We made the change over 6 years ago to electronic medical records. We visited several sites using Compulink, Maximeyes, and 
Medformix^®. Decided to go with Medformix^® for several reasons:

1. Linux servers are very secure and stable
2. We have 2 locations and Linux reduces the cost of linking the 2 offices
3. We wanted something that had a good track record for going all paperless
4. Software auto charges out a job as it is entered and ordered - no more forgotten charges

I am very glad we made the change. I would never go back to paper.

The capability to design customized referral reports has enabled me to get one-page documents out to my referrers on the same day the patient is seen; they have to wait a week to get a 10-12 page data dump from other specialists in my area. Having implemented Electronic Medical Records over sixteen years ago I am often asked by my colleagues what should they look for in a considering such a system. I know that this is a very challenging task for anyone to undertake. The phrase "You don't know what you don't know" applies here. I believe it is impossible to get the decision making information you need by simply reading about systems, talking to colleagues and vendors, or attending meetings. This is a big decision. You should see the system in action. Visit a colleague's office. Spend at least a day observing how seamlessly and efficiently it fits into the practice. Talk to the staff. This will allow you to compare systems in a real world setting. The time to find out how these work is before you buy.

Medformix^® XXV integrates with my office in a way that really must be seen to be truly appreciated. The Patient Traffic Controller tells me where a patient is, who they are with, their appointment and arrival time, and if they are ready for me. This unique part of Medformix^® must be seen to be appreciated. Data input is extremely fast and efficient whether it is done by the doctor or a scribe. Training new staff is very easy. There are several ways that can be used to input data. New staff learn very quickly the available mouse option is not the most efficient way to complete a patient's record. Medformix^® gives you several, more efficient, additional options.

EyeCare Plus

I find the prospect of the new software very exciting, what an adventure to be able to use all of the new things available. The New Crowell System is an entire re-write of the software and offers many of the features we have all wanted. Now, you can document for the Federal Government exactly what you do, meeting all aspects of, "Meaningful Use", in your practice. You have the statistics and all of the supporting data to prove that you are compliant.

You have all of the data of every prescription, data detailed analysis of why you wrote each one. Everything is linked to a detailed problem list. No detail of the prescription process is missed.

But, the one really outstanding thing about Crowell Systems is its way of documenting your visits. Other systems on the market use the, "point and click". Crowell has done away that (while it is one option). Medical records are entered much faster and more easily done with the Crowell technique-- and you never have to touch your mouse!

In a large system, this means hours saved. The notes are accurately done so that the Doctors can go home early. If you don’t believe me, attempt the notes in a "point and click" system and it will take all morning before the notes on one patient.

 The New Crowell Systems will meet all of your needs. You need to see it in action to understand the new features.
